Post Surgical Recovery

Services & Specialties

Physical therapy is a key component of post-surgical recovery.

Physical therapy after surgery typically starts within just a day or two of the procedure. Your physical therapist will assess your vitals, dressing/wound, and home for safety.  We work with the patient and caregivers to develop a personalized treatment plan based on their specific needs and goals.

Treatments include exercises and activities designed to help the patient regain their range of motion, strength, and function. We will provide education and guidance on fall prevention, how to manage pain and swelling, and how to prevent complications such as blood clots or infection. Recommendations for home modification and assistive device or adaptive equipment will be made.

The goal of physical therapy after surgery is to help patients regain their mobility, strength, and function while preventing possible complications from immobility.  Caregiver and patient education on safety, transfers, precautions, home exercise expectations and any special protocol instructions from the surgeon will be covered.

The frequency of physical therapy after surgery will vary depending on the type of surgery and the patient's progress. Orthopedic procedures are typically 2-3 sessions a week.  We will work closely with your surgeon’s office to maximize communication for optimal care.
